Even in the big, multi-story book cities, HP is tucked away at the back along with Goosebumps and LOTRs. The other thing that has surprised me is the general lack of interest in HP. Already I have seen unofficial copies out on the street for a third of the official price. Book five was launched just a few days ago, but it seems that only the large state owned bookstores are carrying the official copies. Each volume costs as much as six times the price of most other books here and the cover art is very disappointing. The official copies were available, but I was impressed by neither their quality nor their translation, but especially not their price. On a recent trip to southern China, I decided to find out for my self what all the fuss is about. I am sure by now that you have all of heard of the fake Chinese HP novels, but how many of you have actually seen one, let alone have one in your collection?
